Sodium

Description of the term: Sodium

At room temperature, sodium metal is so soft that it can be easily cut with a knife. In air, the bright silvery luster of freshly exposed sodium will rapidly tarnish. The density of alkali metals generally increases with increasing?atomic number, but sodium is denser than?potassium. Whilst sodium reacts violently with water in quantities, it is often found dissolved in water in tiny amounts.
